Rotary in the Classroom

The Rotary Club of Hilo Bay has been "going to school" for several years.

This includes reading to keiki in the classroom, a birthday book program and a dictionary distribution project.

Reading to Keiki: Rotarians read aloud to kindergarten and first grade classrooms monthly at Waiakea, Waiakeawaena, and Hilo Union Schools.
Birthday Books for Primary - Rotarians distribute books monthly to PreK-3rd grade students at Waiakea. Students with a birthday in months January-June are invited to pick out a book and write their name on the book plate.
Hilo Union 3rd grade students each receive a Rotary dictionary. The dictionaries are presented in classrooms by Rotarians.

In addition, Waiakeawaena was given a special collection of books in the Fall of 2025 that are used for the island wide Book Quiz competition for grades 3-6.
