Today's Inspiration and Quote

"Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go."

Quote of the day:
"sometimes you get the results you wanted, sometimes you don't. What matters is that you did your best."

Guests

Thank you for joining us! Palini Emilano - Preston's care giver
It was such a pleasure to have Beckie Marshall our guest speaker for this week :)

Guest Speaker: Beckie Marshall

Beckie Marshall from Visitor Aloha Society of Hawaii (VASH) spoke to our club about the organization's beginnings with roots in Rotary and the services provided by the organization today.  Beckie moved to Hilo in 1991 and has worked in education before becoming Director of VASH Hawaii Island.

VASH provides support services to visitors that encounter difficulties requiring assistance during their stay in Hawaii.  Referral to their services typically come from law enforcement or hospitals, so the circumstances in which VASH gets involved can be difficult.

VASH primarily receives funding from the HTA, but, could always use help from local businesses and service providers to donate comfort items or experiences to visitors that have experienced hardships while in Hawaii.

With ever increasing visitor arrivals, recent focus has been put on education of visitors with respect to awareness of their surroundings when it comes to both personal safety and not being disruptive to residents and the environment.
