New Member Spotlight: Bob Juettner

Our club has had the good fortune of adding Bob and Virginia Juettner as "new" members recently, after their relocation from the Tuscon area to Hakalau in August 2019.  Although they initially retired to Arizona in 2010, it became clear that East Hawaii Island was the place for them.

Bob and Virginia have been married for 50 years and have two children.  Bob shared his experiences as a former city administrator in Alaska as well as his experiences in Rotary at his former club as a Club President, Club Secretary, Club Treasurer and Club Runner Administrator.  It is interesting to note that of all the roles Bob has had in Rotary, the least favorite was Club Runner Administrator (sorry Hirona!).

Guest Speaker: The Rotaract Club of East Hawaii (UH-Hilo)

President Junichi presents RCHB Masu and $356 donation (excluding Mike Carroll's hat) to Duke Escobar and Lino Yoshikawa
Duke Escobar and Lino Yoshikawa provided an update on the activities of the Rotaract Club of East Hawaii (UH-Hilo).  The mission of Rotaract is to develop leadership in young adults.  Rotaract East Hawaii is overseen by a faculty advisor (Helen Tien).

In addition to doing a great job supporting our club at Oktoberfest, Rotaract members have recently participated in or provided support to Project Vision Hawaii: Ladies night out, Youth Mental Health First Aid Certificate Training, the Ironman Triathlon, American Cancer Society "Pink Out" run, Operation Christmas Child and the Puna Health and Wellness fair.

This upcoming semester, Rotaract East Hawaii plans to support the HOSA regional conference, UH-Hilo Ho'olaule'a and the American Cancer Society Relay For Life.  Toward that end, the club requested seed money in order to setup their booth at Relay For Life. Because of the short turnaround, our club members in attendance were able to raise $356 on the spot toward their immediate need of $400.  Mahalo to the Rotaract Club for their good works in the community and to our members who contributed to their mission.
