Today's Inspiration and Quote

“Don't let the things you can't do get in the way of the things you should do."
            - John Wooden
Quote of the day:
"I had always hoped that this land might become a safe and agreeable asylum to the virtuous and persecuted part of mankind, to whatever nation they might belong."
             - George Washington
Washington's birthday Feb. 11 in Julian calendar and Feb. 22 Gregorian calendar

Guests

Our guest today John (right) from Drainpipe Plumbing with Tom Witthans (center) and Richard Cunningham (left)
It was nice to see Preston Barnes Jr. (left) with Ken Barnes (center) and their father Preston Barnes (right) :)
Our guest speaker and fellow member Emmeline dePillis (left) and her guest and Economics faculty member at UH Hilo, James Czarski (right)

Guest Speaker: Emmeline dePillis

Today's vocational speaker is a recent returnee to our Club and the current Dean of the UH-Hilo College of Business & Economics (CoBE).

Emmeline's other vocation as an author will be the subject of a future meeting, this presentation was focused on the new and exciting things happening at UH-Hilo's business school.

The CoBE recently announced the planned launch of an Executive Education program geared toward working professionals looking to improve or add to their existing skill sets.  These would be a set of non-credit classes, the method and time of delivery is to be determined.  You are encouraged to participate in an online survey which would allow the CoBE to refine this future offering.  The survey may be found at:  https://forms.gle/oQTKUTuTsGd89prS9

The UH-Hilo CoBE is one of two AACSB accredited business schools in Hawaii (Manoa is the other).  Help is needed from the local business community to place all of the CoBE graduates by providing entry level opportunities with a career path, there are more students graduating than available jobs on Hawaii Island.  Despite this, the overrall employment rate of CoBE graduates is believed to be 99%+, many of the students find work outside of Hawaii Island with about half remaining in the State of Hawaii.
